An one-vehicle accident occurred at the corner of Route 27 and River Road in Boothbay on Friday, Sept. 26 around 12:45 p.m.

Francis “Frank” Richards, 81, was driving his Honda Metropolitan scooter when the tires hit some loose dirt and gravel, causing Richards to skid and lose control of the bike. A witness on scene said the bike flipped on its side.

Richards was taken by the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service to be treated for a broken ankle.

According to responding officer Deputy Brian Collamore of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Richards still had his sense of humor, as when they asked him where he wanted to go, he responded “Hawaii.”

According to Collamore, Richards was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and sustained no head injuries.
