Mike Tipping will speak to Lincoln County Democrats Nov. 16

Thu, 11/05/2015 - 9:30am

Mike Tipping, well known for his incisive coverage of politics in Maine, will be guest speaker at the Democrats’ meeting on Monday, November 16. Tipping’s work has brought to public light many of most controversial statements and actions of many of Maine’s politicians, including Governor Paul LePage. Tipping will give his perspective of the political situation in Maine, the outcomes of the November 2 election, and what is at stake for Mainers in the 2016 national, state and local elections.

Tipping serves as communications director for the Maine People's Alliance and Maine People's Resource Center, two progressive, non-profit organizations dedicated to grassroots organizing and involving Maine people in civic life, especially from underrepresented groups. His work for MPRC includes overseeing the state’s most consistently accurate public opinion polling.

He is also a columnist for the Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News; and author of "As Maine Went: Governor Paul LePage and the Tea Party Takeover of Maine," which chronicles the 2010 election and LePage's first four years in office, and provides insight into the future of Maine politics.

The meeting will be held at the Community Room at the Newcastle Fire Station on River Road. A social gathering will run from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7. Refreshments will be available. Also, a food basket will be available for donations of non-perishables that will be delivered to a local food bank during the holiday season.
