Mendacity

Mon, 06/05/2017 - 4:00pm

    Dear Editor:

In his most recent letter to the Register, Mr. Hammond used the word, “mendacity,” which was not familiar to me. In looking up the definition of the word I learned the following:

mendacious: given to or characterized by deception or falsehood or divergence from absolute truth.

Based on this definition I then attempted to find real life examples of mendacity and I would ask Mr. Hammond if these examples fit his use of the term.

    · “So when I was born, she called me Hillary, and she always told me it’s because of Sir Edmund Hillary.” H. Clinton

    · "I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for 10 years." Former Sen. Harry Reid (D) Nevada

    · “… as you know, there was a violent protest outside of our embassy – sparked by this hateful video.” Susan Rice, Former National Security Advisor

    · "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it," Former President Obama

    · “…that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized.” Former President Obama

Could it be possible Mr. Trump has company as being “among the most dishonest human beings on Earth?”

I thank Mr. Hammond for expanding my deplorable vocabulary. Moving forward, I think my next project will be researching the word hypocrisy.
