The Mehuman (“Maymon”) Jonson Trio is back by popular demand in a special “3rd Friday Art Concert” on Friday, April 18 at the Chocolate Church Arts Center.

Jonson wowed the crowd a few months ago at a New Year’s Eve party with a unique and refreshing blend of soul, jazz, rock, and rhythm & blues, creating music that is both dance-able and highly listen-able.

Jonson has an amazing background. She cut her teeth on old time gospel spirituals, straight ahead jazz, country blues, and classic rock and roll. Jonson delivers a powerful and punchy mix of “funky pulse-poet potions she calls folk hop for hip folk.”

She has toured with many of the best names in popular music, including Nora Jones, Meshell N' Degeocello, Sheila E., Ani Difranco, Rufus Wainwright and many others.

Accompanying her on stand-up and 11-string electric bass is Max McFarland on bass and Casey Hufnagel on percussion providing a solid and exciting rhythm track.

“This performance resumes our well-received 3rd Friday Concert series and builds on the Art Walk routine by celebrating the arts,” said Jennifer DeChant, executive director of the Chocolate Church. “Each concert highlights local musicians with a featured performer and two opening acts.”

Giff Jamison and Stan Davis will precede the Mehuman Jonson Trio to the stage. Jamison’s playing draws from folk, jazz and rock influences but his roots are country blues and finger style guitar. Empty prairies, slow rolling rivers, moon filled dreams, and lost travelers all find a place somewhere in his music.

Davis presents a mix of original songs, storytelling, and classic blues and folk tunes. His deep resonant singing, humor, emotional songs, and skillful guitar playing moves and entertain audiences.

Tickets are only $10, in keeping with one of the Chocolate Church goals of presenting quality entertainment at an accessible price.

Tickets are available www.chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling the box office 207-442-8455. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 7:30 show.
