Matthew “Matt” Dennis Gordon (aka Moosie) died unexpectedly March 24, 2017 with family by his side.

Matt was born, raised, and rooted in Wiscasset. He lived with his parents and brother until it was time for the brothers to both set down their own roots.

Matt went through the Wiscasset School system until graduating in 2002. He was a three sport varsity athlete, leaving behind an unbroken record in shot put and discus. He also excelled in basketball and soccer.

Upon graduation he entered the workforce where he started working at Le Garage in Wiscasset. After many years of fine tuning his talent, he worked his way up to become head chef. He then decided to pursue his passion working with tools and began building full time, which led to his most recent career at LincolnHealth/Miles campus.

Whenever he could he would head “Upta Camp,” where he loved to spend time hunting, fishing, and loving every day with family and friends. He was most content in the outdoors whether it was riding around the back roads or sitting by a campfire.

He was an individual that had a passion for helping people, which lead to Matt becoming a member of the Wiscasset Fire Department for a number of years, when time allowed. He was always there to lend a helping hand to make things easy for people. Matt’s family was able to continue his passion for helping people by honoring his wishes as an organ donor, which has already helped several people in need.

Matt was predeceased by his mother, Barbara Gordon.

He is survived and will be forever remembered by his father, Dennis Gordon and companion Wilma Moon; wife, Mary Gabriele and sons Joshua and Caleb Gabriele; brother, Mike and his wife Rita and their daughter Ellie Pratt. Among his numerous aunts and uncles, Matt had a special bond with his uncle, John Gordon. He also leaves behind on both sides of his family brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, a nephew and several cousins. Matt also leaves behind an unborn son, Camden Matthew, with his mother, Kianna Santos.

Visiting hours will be at Desmond Funeral Home 638 High Street in Bath from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, March 31.

Funeral services will be held at Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church on Route 1 in Woolwich on Saturday April 1 at 2 p.m.

A private family reception will follow the funeral, with a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you carry on Moosie’s tradition of helping others, please send donations to your favorite charitable cause/organization.
