Mary Johnston has become one of Maine's up and coming freelance photographers. Her photography will be featured this May and June at the Southport Memorial Library.

Johnston started taking photos when she was a teenager. Her father had a real love and eye for photography, and she feels she has followed in his footsteps.

Johnston sees photography as a challenge, to capture an image and to get the viewer to see it for it's true beauty. Her passion for photography has developed and flourished since moving to Maine in 2002.

A self-taught photographer, she has focused her lens on subjects of numerous categories including action, weddings, events, color, black and white, and travel. Johnston has an eye for beautiful scenery and nature and really enjoys capturing wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, and portraits.

Mary is seldom without her camera and is always ready to capture that special moment in time. She often climbs aboard a local lobsterman's boat or a friend's pro bass boat in hopes of creating that unforgettable moment.

Her passion for photography is evident in her photographs.

In 2011, she was juried into the Maine Photography Show at the Boothbay Region's Art Foundation. Mary's photography was also exhibited at Miles Memorial Hospital in March 2013, and at the Salt Water Art Gallery in New Harbor in 2015.

Mary was born and raised in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and is an X-ray technologist of 29 years. She has worked for Lincoln Health, Miles Campus since 2002. Mary lives in Jefferson, Maine with her husband of 27 years.
