Marijuana legalization initiatives discussed at Democrats’ meeting

Wed, 09/16/2015 - 2:45pm

Proponents of two petitions currently being circulated are working hard to have their initiative on the November 2016 ballot. Both initiatives aim to legalize the sale and use of marijuana in Maine, but there are distinct differences between them.

David Boyer, Maine Political Director of the Marijuana Policy Project (a national advocacy organization) and Paul McCarrier, founder and director of Legalize Maine (a local, grassroots organization based in Waldo County) will present their respective initiatives to Lincoln County Democrats and others interested in the topic at the Democrats’ September meeting.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Community Room at the Newcastle Fire Station on River Road. A social gathering will run from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and discussions about the two petitions will start at 7 p.m. sharp. The public is cordially invited to attend.
