Maine: Where life is full of gratitude

Fri, 11/28/2014 - 4:15pm

    Dear Editor:

It has been a long time since I made a list of things for which I am grateful to be shared on Thanksgiving day so bear with me as I venture forward.

First, I am very happy that I do not live in Buffalo, New York where there is seven feet of snow and they call you “Buffalonians.”

Second, I am very happy that I live in Edgecomb, Maine where the voter turn out was as high as 673 on Nov. 4. I can’t remember such a high turn out here and it was rewarding to stand by the ballot box thanking each voter in the first six hours.

Third, I am blessed to have had three newly born grandchildren in February, July and October. That brings the total number of grandchildren to nine.

Fourth, I am blessed to have God’s angels in my life as this includes Heaven, God’s Will and Gabriel.

Fifth, we are fortunate to see five of our children in Massachusetts and two more in Connecticut. Four others are on the west coast and, regretfully, visits are fewer there.

Sixth, I was graced with meeting a woman who just crossed the 100 year mark and she is still driving and enjoying life at its fullest. This is a woman who was interested in and mastered engineering and who taught pilots in the military how to fly.

Seventh, and last on the list, was the pleasure I had canvassing in Lincoln County on behalf of candidates and meeting every person — all of whom were kind and helpful — who indicated they would be voting on Nov. 4. Working with all the many volunteers was the icing on the cake.

This Thanksgiving Day I will have the opportunity to celebrate here in Maine and in Massachusetts on Saturday. I wish everyone a joyous time with family and friends and a safe journey wherever you may travel.
