Maine history comes alive at Lincoln Home speaker series

Thu, 05/07/2015 - 8:30am

Matthew Hansbury, collection manager for the Knox Museum, will share with us the life of Henry Knox and his time in Maine on Monday, May 11 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Knox owned and operated a bookstore there, cultivating an interest in military history and joining a local artillery company. When the American Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, he befriended General George Washington, and quickly rose to become the chief artillery officer of the Continental Army. After his military service, Knox retired to Thomaston, where he built Montpelier on land his wife, Lucy, had inherited from her family.

We welcome the public to join us for our free presentation held in our living room overlooking the Damariscotta River. The Lincoln Home is located at 22 River Road, Newcastle. For more information, contact Activities Director Rhonda Hanna at 207-563-3350.
