Maine Boomers launch technology workshop series for Boomers and seniors

Sun, 09/14/2014 - 8:00am

BoomerTECH Adventures’ passion is helping Boomers and Seniors create, connect and contribute in today’s world. Our personalized, expert support increases Boomers’ knowledge and comfort using digital tools and resources. BoomerTECH Adventures provides multi-day retreats in idyllic Maine settings, a variety of specialized workshops, on-demand tech training for individuals and groups and online digital resources for Boomers.

Our services are customized to the interests and skill levels of each participant. BoomerTECH retreats and workshops are interactive, self-paced, relaxed, and fun. Definitely not a typical ‘sit and get’ 9-5 class! We are committed to helping every participant, from beginner to advanced; that’s why we limit registration to 30 participants to ensure the highest level of personal attention.

Topics include keeping in touch with distant family members, reconnecting with classmates, sharing through digital photography, and using smart phones and tablets smartly. Tips on writing your life story, becoming a smarter searcher, and finding your niche in social networks will also be explored. Other participants may want to develop new technology and social media skills to use in their own entrepreneurial ventures.

What makes BoomerTECH Adventures unique is that we personalize to individual interests and start from each participant’s current skill level. Participants definitely don’t need to be concerned about ‘keeping up’ with others! No competition, no pressure, just lots of opportunities to learn the skills and develop the abilities they would like to have in a safe, supportive environment.

Highlights of BoomerTECH Adventures Retreats and Workshops:

  • Connect with adults who share similar talents and interests
  • Learn specific skills for using technology
  • Use technology skills to give back to the community
  • Have fun and enjoy local museums, art galleries, restaurants, shopping and the beauty of Maine

Currently we are scheduling multi-day retreats in several beautiful Maine locations— Orono, home of The University of Maine, or Bar Harbor, gateway to Acadia National Park. With each retreat beginning on Sunday night and concluding Thursday afternoon, participants will also be able to travel and enjoy Maine before and/or after the retreat.

Day workshops are scheduled at Orono on September 16; Presque Isle on October 16 and Berwick on November 16, with others being added. BoomerTECH Adventures will also offer walk-in tech help and present at a number of regional events including Maine Senior Guide Expos in York on September 10 and Freeport on October 1.

Three Maine educators, Jill Spencer, Chris Toy and Ed Brazee are the co-founders of BoomerTECH Adventures. Jill, a former teacher, is an international consultant and author; Chris Toy was a long-time principal and international consultant. Ed Brazee was a professor at the University of Maine. Jeff Brazee, Coordinator of Educational Innovation and Technology in Stillwater Area Public Schools (MN), is also a co-founder of BoomerTECH Adventures.
