Mabel (Knapp) McAfee, 94, a longtime resident of the Gardiner Road, Wiscasset died June 7, 2014.

She was born on June 15, 1919 on the summit of Woodford Mountain, Woodford, Vt., near Bennington. She was midwifed by her Aunt Emma Pease (her mother’s sister). She was the daughter of Charles E. and M. Frances (Pease) Knapp.

In 1937 she married Robert McAfee of Bowdoin, who later served in the Army during World War II. Mabel and Robert together owned and operated McAfee Forest Products for 35 years. They also were active participants in events sponsored by the Sam Shaw Chapter of the Veterans for Peace.

She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset and several other spiritual organizations.

Robert preceded her in death at their home in Wiscasset in 1993. Their daughter, Leontine Reed, died in 2004.

Family was of great importance to Mabel. She generously spent years and much energy doing extensive genealogy research of her 12 generations of New England lineage. She was an accomplished craftsperson, seamstress and even took up watercolor painting in her 70s. She was a true artist of life.

She is survived by a son, Glenn McAfee of Bath; daughter, Cheryl Welton of Vancouver, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans for Peace Tom Sturtevant Chapter, P.O. Box 927, Brunswick, ME 04011.
