Local hero

Dear Editor:

As the school year starts up in Boothbay Harbor this year, there will be at least one notable absence. Lori Grinnell quietly retired from her school nurse position that she has held for as long as I can remember. I have worked with many school nurses over the past 20 years and I cannot think of a more compassionate, dedicated and skilled person in this position.

Lori has been outstanding. She has served as a nurse, doctor, social worker, guidance counselor and parent for so many young people. She has touched the lives of so many of the youth in this area and has consistently gone above and beyond simply as part of her personality and innate caring. Lori has served as a “go to” person for me for virtually all health and mental health related issues in the schools and her collaborative spirit in caring for children has been a key to keeping our kids in the Boothbay area in school and healthy over the years.

These will be big shoes to fill. So best of luck. Lori. A true unsung local hero!
