Letter to the Editor

The Livestrong program

Dear Editor:

Live long, Livestrong, long live the Y! For the past 12 weeks, I have been enrolled in the Livestrong program at our YMCA. This is a free program for those who had been diagnosed with cancer, in order to motivate survivors to exercise more, and to bring awareness to the multi-faceted programs offered at the facility.

From the first meeting to the last, we were inspired by a supportive trained staff, led by Abby Jones. Our questions were asked and answered; we were introduced to equipment, the pool and machines. All instruction was given with expertise and humor. There were special speakers on reflexology, nutrition, medical massage, chair yoga, dance, and physical therapy.

I would not have known about the Livestrong program if the Register had not printed a previous letter to the editor, written by a former member who had graduated from the program. Our Y and your paper deserve much credit for making our residents aware of such healthy and rewarding programs. Thank you!
