Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: Many weather-related accidents

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 563 calls for the period of Dec. 18 to Jan. 3 and Year Jan. 1, 2017 to Jan. 1, 2018, LCSO responded to 20,317 calls.

Summonses

On Dec. 20, Michael P. Bond, 29, of Jefferson was issued a summons for Attaching False Plates, on Rockland Road, Jefferson, by Sgt. Mark Bridgham.

On Dec. 24, Mercy E. Daigle, 29, of Dresden was issued a summons for Criminal Threatening, on Gardiner Road, Dresden, by Sgt. Mark Bridgham.

On Jan. 1, Allen L. Higgins, 30, of Nobleboro was issued a summons for Failure to Register Vehicle (greater than 150 days), on Heater Road, Damariscotta, by Deputy Ryan Chubbuck.

On Jan. 1, Joshua W. Bonenfant, 38, of South Bristol was issued a summons for Violating Conditions of Release, on Mills Road, Newcastle, by Deputy Ryan Chubbuck.

Arrests

On Dec. 21, Samantha R. Glidden, 25, of Richmond was arrested on a Hancock County District Court warrant for Failure to Appear, on Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, by Deputy Jonathan Colby.

On Dec. 23, Joel G. Nein, 44, of Westport Island was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault, on East Shore Road, Westport Island, by Deputy Chase Bosse, who was assisted by Deputy John Braley.

On Dec. 23, Troy J. Woodman, 35, of Warren was arrested on a Rockland District Court warrant for Failure to Appear, at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Reserve Deputy Dwight Fowles.

On Dec. 24, Dale Orcutt, 37, of Dixmont was arrested by State Police on behalf of Deputy Chad Gilbert for Domestic Violence Assault, Criminal Mischief and Assault, which occurred earlier on Munsey Road, Jefferson. Mr. Orcutt was transferred to Deputy Caleb Poirier, who transported him to Two Bridges Regional Jail without incident.

On Dec. 24, David A. Hartley, 49, of Waterville was arrested for Operating under the Influence, on Augusta Road, Jefferson, by Deputy John Braley, who was assisted by Sgt. Aaron Beck.

On Dec. 29, Patrick A. Thayer, Jr., 28, of Whitefield was arrested for Obstructing Report of Crime and Aggravated Assault, on Heath Road, Whitefield, by Deputy Chase Bosse.

On Dec. 29, Justin T. Jernigan, 27, of Belfast was arrested for Violating Condition of Release, at Two Bridges Regional Jail, Wiscasset, by Det. Jared Mitkus.

On Dec. 31, Jason L. Fogg, 27, of Bangor was arrested for Violating Condition of Release, on Bunker Hill Road, Jefferson, by Deputy Caleb Poirier.  While at Two Bridges Regional Jail, and after further investigation, Deputy Kevin Dennison also charged Mr. Fogg with Domestic Violence Assault, priors, related to this same incident.

On Jan. 1, Jacob R. Walmer, 31, of Whitefield was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release, on Heath Road, Whitefield, by Det. Sgt. Ronald Rollins.

Accidents

On Dec. 23, an accident occurred on Waldoboro Road in Bremen involving Chester Fesmire Jr., 66, of Bremen. Mr. Fesmire was operating his 2001 Dodge D1500Q northbound when he lost control of his vehicle due to the snow covered roadway. As a result, his vehicle left the roadway, going into the ditch and striking several rocks, which caused front end damage. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 23, an accident occurred on Waldoboro Road in Jefferson involving Jennifer Jewett, 36, of Augusta. Ms. Jewett was operating her 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass westbound, when due to slippery roads caused by snow, her vehicle began to slide into the opposite lane. Ms. Jewett turned the wheel to the right to try to bring the vehicle back into her lane, but over corrected. As a result, her vehicle exited off the right side of the roadway, went into the ditch, where it rolled up onto the driver’s side and came to rest on the westbound side of the roadway. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 24, an accident occurred on Augusta Road in Jefferson involving David A. Hartley, 49, of Waterville. Mr. Hartley was operating his 2012 Jeep Wrangler southbound when he stated he picked up his cell phone to read a text message, became distracted and exited off the right side of the roadway. His vehicle then went through a sign post and came to rest in a ditch. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 24, an accident occurred on Eddy Road in Edgecomb involving Christopher S. Clifford, 30, of Dresden. Mr. Clifford was operating his 2005 Chevrolet 1500 westbound when he lost control of his vehicle due to the ice on the road. As a result, his vehicle skidded across the road and went off the left side of the roadway. The front of the vehicle struck a large tree stump and the end of a guardrail, pushing the front of his vehicle back out into the roadway, facing westbound and the rear bumper coming to rest on top of the guardrail. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 27, an accident occurred on Bayview Road in Nobleboro involving Bethany E. McDonald, 41, of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. Ms. McDonald was operating her 2007 Toyota 4 Runner northbound when due to not being familiar with the road and the conditions of the road (snow covered), she lost control of her vehicle and went off the right side of the roadway. Her vehicle then slowly rolled onto its left side. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 27, an accident occurred at the transfer station on Country Club Road in Boothbay involving Jeffrey Musich, 58, of Edgecomb and Richard E. Palmer, 78, of East Boothbay. Mr. Musich was backing his 2010 Subaru Outback up and struck Mr. Palmer’s 2015 Toyota Rav4. Deputy Kevin Dennison was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 27, an accident occurred on Hilton Road in Whitefield involving William W. Brooke, 64, of Whitefield and Timothy J. Peaslee, 24, of Whitefield. Mr. Brooke was operating his 2003 Chevrolet 2500 southbound on Hilton Road. Mr. Peaslee was operating his 1993 Artic Cat snowmobile and leaving a driveway when he pulled out in front of Brooke’s vehicle, causing the two to collide. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 27, an accident occurred on Main Road on Westport Island involving Jeffrey C. Cooney, 22, of Westport Island and Joshua M. Brady, 24, of New Gloucester. Mr. Cooney was operating his 2008 Honda CRV southbound and Mr. Brady was making a right turn onto Main Road in his 2017 Hino 268271 truck. Cooney was unable to see Brady’s vehicle, due to the sun glare and as a result, he was unable to stop in time, due to slippery road conditions, and struck his vehicle. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 27, an accident occurred on US Route 1 in Nobleboro involving Shirley J. Lewis, 39, of Rockland; Stephen J. Tracey, 53, of Union and Andrew P. Stone, 48, of Hope. Mr. Tracey was operating his 2003 Subaru Forester southbound when the front driver’s wheel of his vehicle came off and Ms. Lewis, who was traveling behind Tracey in her 2012 Toyota Camry struck the wheel. The wheel then crossed into the northbound lane and Mr. Stone’s 2006 Chevrolet Silverado struck the wheel. Deputy Kevin Dennison was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 28, an accident occurred on East River Road in Whitefield involving Jessica E. Hisler, 22, of Somerville. Ms. Hisler was rounding a curve heading northbound in her 2015 Nissan Versa when she stated another vehicle was crowding the center line causing her to move to the right. As a result, her vehicle went off the edge of the right side of the roadway and struck a ledge. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 28, an accident occurred on State Route 129 in South Bristol involving Leonard M. Wall, 17, of Bristol. Mr. Wall was operating his 2008 Ford F-350 southbound when he accelerated and lost control of his vehicle. As a result, his vehicle crossed the center line, spinning counter clock wise and entered the northbound lane, where his passenger side hit the northbound guardrail. Reserve Deputy Michael Elwell was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 28, an accident occurred on Main Road on Westport Island involving Erin L. Bailey, 42, of Westport Island. Ms. Bailey was operating her 2016 Toyota Tacoma southbound, near the intersection of Murray Drive, when she lost traction on the snow covered roadway. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway on the left and struck a tree. Sgt. Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on Duck Puddle Road in Nobleboro involving Karina M. Waskiewicz, 21, of Bristol. Ms. Waskiewicz was operating her 2005 Volvo southbound when she took a curve in the road too fast for the road conditions. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway on the left, where she then hit and ran over a mailbox before coming to final rest against a cluster of small trees. Deputy Chase Bosse was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on Split Rock Road in South Bristol involving Bruce Russell, 61, of Newcastle. Mr. Russell was operating his 1998 Freightliner FL80 westbound when he encountered another vehicle traveling eastbound. As a result, he moved his vehicle as far to the right as possible, placing his wheels into the soft snow and ditch. The vehicle then traveled about 100 feet before crashing into a large low hanging tree. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on Cooper Road in Whitefield involving Ashley L. Dumas, 28, of Whitefield and Jay M. Haley, 50, of Madison. Ms. Dumas was operating her 2009 Ford Focus southbound and Mr. Haley was backing his 2003 Freightliner FL70 into a driveway. Dumas could not stop on the icy road conditions and struck Haley’s vehicle in the front passenger side bumper, causing damage to the driver’s side. Deputy Justin Drake was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on East Pond Road in Nobleboro involving Margaret E. Bradbury, 23, of Nobleboro.  Ms. Bradbury was operating her 2010 Hyundai Accent westbound when her vehicle skidded on the icy roadway. As a result, her vehicle traveled across both lanes of traffic and went down over an embankment before coming to rest against some trees. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on Main Street in Newcastle involving Kathryn A. Young, 45, of South Bristol and Larry M. Benner, 66, of Damariscotta. Mr. Benner was stopped in traffic heading northbound in his 2014 Chevrolet 1500 on the sharp corner of Main Street. Ms. Young was following too close in her 2016 Ford Explorer and failed to see Benner stopped. As a result, her vehicle skidded on the icy road and struck Benner’s vehicle in the rear. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 29, an accident occurred on Bristol Road in Bristol involving Kathrene H. Getz, 38, of Walpole.  Ms. Getz was operating her 2012 Chrysler Town and Country northbound when a deer entered the roadway from the right and was struck. Deputy Jonathan Colby was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 30, an accident occurred on Upper Round Pond Road in Bristol involving Arianna M. Gervais, 17, of Jefferson. Ms. Gervais was operating her 2010 Hyundai Elantra westbound when she lost traction on the snow covered roadway. As a result, she over corrected and went off the road to the right and into a ditch. Reserve Deputy Dwight Fowles was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 30, an accident occurred on Main Road on Westport Island involving Ashley A. Vaillancourt, 30, of Bowdoinham. Ms. Vaillancourt was operating her 2009 Pontiac Vibe northbound when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway. As a result, her vehicle crossed the center line and exited the road to the left, where her vehicle skimmed a tree along the entire length of the driver’s side. Deputy Chase Bosse was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 2, an accident occurred on Route 32 in Jefferson involving Sanford E. Winchenbach, 55, of Waldoboro. Mr. Winchenbach was operating his 1998 Chevrolet 1500 southbound when he lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway and struck a frozen snowbank. Deputy Chad Gilbert was the investigating officer.
