Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: First snow causes many accidents

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 250 calls between Dec. 5 and Dec. 11 and year to date, LCSO has responded to 19,405 calls.

On Dec. 11, Deputy Justin Drake responded to a report of a bronze statue (value: approximately $100.00) that was stolen from a residence in South Bristol. Further investigation if new leads develop.

Summonses

On Dec. 7, Michael R. Carver, 36, of Whitefield was issued a summons for Operating after Suspension, on Bristol Road, Bristol, by Sgt. Aaron Beck.

On Dec. 8, Elizabeth R. Young, 26, of Newcastle was issued a summons for Operating after Suspension, on Bristol Road, Bristol, by Deputy John Braley.

Arrests

On Dec. 7, Trever R. Coffin, 18, of Nobleboro was arrested for Operating under the Influence, on State Route 32, Bristol, by Sgt. Aaron Beck.

On Dec. 8, Daniel D. Young, 45, of Bristol was arrested on a Lincoln County District Court warrant for Reckless Conduct, on Thompson Inn Road, South Bristol, by Deputy Kevin Dennison.

Accidents

On Dec. 6, an accident occurred on Rockland Road in Jefferson involving Michael R. Emond, 32, of Jefferson and William F. Nicholson, 74, of Jefferson. Mr. Emond was parked on the side of the roadway in his 2002 Buick Century, off the road. Mr. Nicholson was moving his 2001 Ford F450 and struck the side of Emond’s vehicle. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 7, an accident occurred on Sawyer’s Island Road in Boothbay involving Maren L. Sherman, 79, of Boothbay. Ms. Sherman was operating her 2017 Subaru Forester southbound when she crossed the center line and struck a telephone pole in the northbound ditch. Deputy Kevin Dennison was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 7, an accident occurred on State Route 32 in Bristol involving Trever R. Coffin, 18, of Nobleboro. Mr.  Coffin was operating his 2001 Ford F-150 southbound when he left the roadway on the right side, struck a ditch, then a driveway. Sgt. Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 8, an accident occurred on Back Narrows Road in Boothbay involving Claudia M. Kinsey, 72, of Boothbay. Ms. Kinsey was operating her 2001 Toyota Corolla eastbound when a deer entered the roadway in front of her. Ms. Kinsey swerved to avoid the deer and entered the eastbound ditch, striking a large rock which caused her vehicle to go airborne and come to rest with the front end against a large tree. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on State Route 129 in South Bristol involving Zachary J. Gamage, 16, of Walpole. Mr. Gamage was operating his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound and due to slippery road conditions, he lost control of his vehicle. As a result, his vehicle began to swerve into the southbound lane, where he turned the wheel to the right to bring the vehicle back into the northbound lane, however, he over corrected. The vehicle then went off the right side of the road and down over an embankment, where the front of the vehicle struck a tree. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on River Road in Edgecomb involving Carole L. Hamm, 54, of Boothbay Harbor. Ms. Hamm was operating her 2017 Ford Edge southbound when she skidded on the icy roadway, over corrected and slid across the northbound lane and into a large rock and tree. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Back River Road in Boothbay involving Theodore C. Schmidt, 82, of Boothbay. Mr. Schmidt was operating his Toyota Tacoma southbound when he skidded on the snowy road surface. As a result, his vehicle crossed over the southbound lane and entered the steep hill, causing it to roll over onto its roof. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Gardiner Road in Dresden involving Kyle M. Beckwith, 29, of Dresden. Mr. Beckwith was operating his 2005 Ford focus southbound when he skidded on the icy and snowy roadway, sliding into a ditch. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Cooper Road in Whitefield involving Simon C. Frost, 41, of Alna. Mr. Frost was operating his 2002 Ford Ranger eastbound when due to slippery road conditions, caused by snow, he lost control of his vehicle. As a result, his vehicle slid off the right side of the road, into a ditch and rolled onto its right side. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Hendricks Hill Road in Southport involving Michael J. Lewis, 67, of Safety Harbor, Florida. Mr. Lewis was operating his 2004 Jeep Liberty eastbound when he swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Due to the road surface covered in snow, he slid off the road to the right, where his vehicle overturned once and came to rest upright at the bottom of the ditch. Deputy Caleb Poirier was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Rockland Road in Whitefield involving Walter F. Shea, 32, of Jefferson. Mr. Shea was operating his 1999 Volvo 80 westbound, when due to slippery road conditions caused by snow, he lost control of his vehicle. As a result, his vehicle went off the right side of the road and came to rest in the woods, with the front passenger’s side of the vehicle striking a tree. Deputy John Braley was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 9, an accident occurred on Boothbay Road in Edgecomb involving Clyde J. Markland, 74, of Sanford and Ethan L. Murray, 20, of Newcastle. Mr.  Murray was operating his 2004 Buick Le Sabre northbound when he spun out due to snow. As a result, his vehicle came to a stop on the side of the road, partially blocking the northbound lane. Mr. Markland was operating a 2003 Northeast Charter bus northbound when he began to slide due to the snow. As a result, the bus slid into Murray’s vehicle and pushed it into the ditch, causing the bus to partially enter the ditch also. The bus sustained minor cosmetic damage to the passenger side and Mr. Murray’s vehicle sustained minor damage to the trunk and bumper. Neither driver or passengers were injured. Deputy Caleb Poirier was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 10, an accident occurred on Rabbit Path Road in Alna involving Scott R. Pushard, 28, of Nobleboro. Mr. Pushard was operating his 2008 Ford F150 eastbound when he skidded on the icy roadway and entered the right side ditch. Sgt. Mark Bridgham was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 10, an accident occurred on State Route 129 in South Bristol involving Maxwell W. Bela, 27, of Walpole. Mr. Bela was operating his 2014 American Motors truck southbound when he lost control of his vehicle on the slush covered roadway. As a result, his vehicle entered the right hand side of the ditch, where he struck a tree before coming to rest in the ditch. Reserve Deputy Michael Elwell was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 10, an accident occurred on State Park Road in Jefferson involving Jordyn R. Walker, 18, of Warren. Ms. Walker was operating her 2002 Chevrolet Impala northbound and was rounding a corner on the ice covered roadway, when she lost control of her vehicle. As a result, her vehicle left the roadway on the left hand side, striking a telephone pole and guide wire. Reserve Deputy Michael Elwell was the investigating officer.

On Dec. 11, an accident occurred on Bristol Road in Bristol involving Jack D. Speranza, 54, of South Bristol. Mr. Speranza was operating his 2013 Mini Cooper northbound when a deer entered the roadway from the west side and was struck. Sgt. Matthew Day was the investigating officer.
