Lincoln County Dental elected Carolyn Maunz to its board of directors at the July 2015 meeting. Maunz has been a resident of South Bristol since 1999.

Maunz brings to Lincoln County Dental her years of experience working with children in need of health and dental care, as director of the Preventive Health Program (formerly Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment) for Hancock and Washington counties, and as a former member of the Dental Health Task Force in Augusta.

Concern for children in need of services in rural areas, but unable to afford treatment or find access to dental care, inspired Maunz to work with agencies such as Downeast Health Services and the local CAP Agency to come up with innovative ways to encourage providers and recipients to find real solutions to care issues.

In addition, Maunz brings to the LCD board her healthcare work with seniors and 13 years of experience in marketing, referral development and grant writing. While working in Ellsworth, she spent some time volunteering at a free health clinic, where she again, saw the need for access to both health and dental services for children and adults.

While her experience is mostly from other areas of Maine, she has seen the same issues and needs in Lincoln County through her work in healthcare.

Maunz is drawn to Lincoln County Dental for its mission “to provide access to dental care to those individuals who are at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty line and have no dental home”; as well as their vision “to work closely with healthcare organizations such as LincolnHealth and area medical and dental professionals achieve integration of oral health into community programs for a holistic approach to overall health.”

Much of the work of Lincoln County dental is provided through the generosity of dedicated volunteer dental professionals. Through their work, they provide emergency and maintenance care for approximately 800 clients, with a waiting list of others in need of care.

Lincoln County Dental is supported through the work of volunteer dental professionals, grant funding, individual donations and fees. Maunz hopes to enhance the public awareness and financial support of Lincoln County Dental, Inc. through her work with the board of directors.
