Lincoln County Community Health Assessment request issued

Tue, 10/28/2014 - 12:30pm

Let your voice be heard about community health issues in Lincoln County.

The Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission (LCRPC) and its partners (CEI, Midcoast Hunger Prevention and Healthy Lincoln County) are asking people in Lincoln County what they think about health issues in their communities. We want to hear from you.

With a grant from the Maine Health Access Foundation, this group of organizations is gathering information from people who live or work in Lincoln County. This is being done through online and paper surveys, talking with groups and interviewing individuals.

While we welcome anyone’s opinions, the project’s aim to ensure that people who experience challenges — such as poverty and/or lack of health insurance — have a clear voice. In addition, we want to be sure to hear from youth and elders.

Other groups like fishermen, lobstermen, single parents, veterans, and others are strongly encouraged to give their opinions.

The goal of the project is to identify one particular issue that challenges the health and wellness of people in Lincoln County, so that organizations and people can work together for change. After gathering information and zeroing in on one or two keys issues, LCRPC and its partner organizations will be eligible to apply for additional funding from MEHAF to bring people together to generate ideas and plan for creative improvement.

LCRPC is looking to community members to assist with information gathering. People can get involved in a number of ways, including:

    • Complete the anonymous online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/93GNB9C. People who complete the survey are put into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Amazon.com or iTunes.
    • Groups and organizations can contact the project director to schedule a time to discuss their community and health issues.
    • Organizations can work with the project director to get paper surveys out to their clients and consumers. Clients and consumers who anonymously complete the survey would receive a $5.00 Hannaford gift card as a thank you.

The Project Director is Jennifer Gunderman. She can be reached at jgundermanking@gmail.com or 207-505-1452. Outreach with many groups and communities started earlier this summer, and our goal is to hear from as many Lincoln County residents and groups as possible by Nov. 15.
