Let's make it happen

    Dear Editor:

Kudos to Susan Brackett for spearheading an initiative to save Kenniston Hill Inn. I’m not alone in feeling sad, bewildered and frustrated about the impending loss of this historic landmark that graces the entrance to our town, and now we have a possibility of preventing its destruction.

I will contribute to the effort to raise the $78,000 needed to relocate the building to the Railway Village, and I urge local residents and visitors to do the same.

The house was constructed when our town was a youthful 33 years old, and we may regard our donations as birthday gifts to Boothbay in celebration of its 250th anniversary!

Might we also hope that Mr. Coulombe will donate the funds that he’ll save by not having to demolish and dispose of the structure? The entire amount needed to relocate the building is only three-tenths of one percent of the reported cost to construct the new country club; the preservation of the venerable and beautiful Kenniston Hill Inn is a priceless and most worthy enterprise.

Many thanks to the individuals at the Boothbay Historical Society, the Civic Association, the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, and the Railway Village who’ve provided valuable input and encouragement; to the artists and others whose donations will boost the fundraising; and to all who will support this effort. Let’s make this happen!
