Let’s work together

Dear Editor:

I left the Boothbay Harbor Planning Board meeting Wednesday night (Dec. 13) encouraged by the attitude and civility of participants. I also realized what I said was not stated clearly enough. Paul (Coulombe) doesn't have to do any of the projects he has undertaken, or is planning. He will never receive payback on his investment. His payback is the vitality and financial health of the Boothbay region. He has built businesses that will be profitable enough to be self sustaining since he is not asking those businesses to pay back his investment as a bank would. Paul doesn't have a hidden agenda, he cares about the region!

There are two pressing issues that need attention regardless of any development Paul may accomplish. I dread the day that someone who is walking on the west side of Atlantic Avenue is struck by a vehicle. There are no safe crosswalks on the entire street including the walk at the footbridge. Drivers don't seem to see the need to stop, to allow the foot traffic to proceed safely. The second issue is the need for access to the water for recreation. Pier owners have been tolerant of young fishermen and the view from the Fishermen's Memorial is wonderful, but ...

Let’s work together to get what is right for the town done.

Mike Fritz
