LePage's scapegoat

Wed, 06/29/2016 - 10:30am

Dear Editor:

Chasing away good paying jobs and suppressing wages and benefits for hard working Mainers seems to be the agenda of the LePage Administration and his collaborators in the Legislature. No only did LePage send Statoil with its good paying jobs packing, he has also dashed the hopes of Maine’s nascent solar power industry with the veto of the recent solar energy bill.

These were not just job killing moves but also denied rate paying Mainers the choice of affordable electricity and local energy security, not to mention the increasing the environmental damage we suffer in Maine with our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels.

LePage says he is all about attracting good paying jobs here to Maine but his record and actions show otherwise. He and his collaborators have done everything they can to suppress wages and benefits to the few good paying jobs that are here and done little or nothing to bring new jobs or relief to those area affected by the closure of so many paper mills.

Instead he looks for scapegoats to cover his many failures. Lately he is scapegoating the Natural Resources Council of Maine. In its actions to protect Maine’s environment, the NRCM is working to preserve the one thing that keeps tourist coming back to Maine, her natural beauty and splendor.

LePage seems intend on despoiling this fragile asset and the profitable industries it hosts; I can only conclude that the NRCM must be doing something right. So I am sending them a donation to tell them to keep up the good work.

If you agree with me on this, I encourage you to also send the NRCM a donation. Their website is NRCM.org.
