American Legion Post 36 hosted a yard sale Saturday, July 22 on the Boothbay Common, with about 15 vendors taking part.

“We got a good turnout of vendors,” said Post Commander David Patch, who was helping at the Legion’s yard sale table. “There’s a variety of stuff for sale.”

During the first hour, many people looked over the offerings and items were being purchased at a good rate. The sunny weather contributed to the turnout, as did the crafters setting up their tents at the north end of the Common.

“We had a little mix-up on dates,” said Patch. “But we said, ‘The more the merrier and it will bring more people to both the yard sale and craft booths.’”

One of the yard sale booths was a lemonade stand run by two young girls, Magen Burge and Lilly Nein, both age 9. Magen’s grandfather, Bill, built the stand and the donated proceeds were for the Homeless Veterans of Maine.

“We’re going to ask the girls to be present when we hand over the money,” said Patch. “We also want to expose them to a group of homeless veterans to show them what they worked for.”

Steve Berger, one of the vendors, was selling some items he and his wife, Cathy, picked out of their barn that morning.

“We’re just novices,” said Berger. “We got some real professional yard sale people here with their tents and signs.”
