Learning to enjoy Maine’s sea vegetables

Tue, 10/28/2014 - 1:45pm

Come to the FARMS Community Kitchen (upstairs over the Rising Tide Community Market in Damariscotta) and learn what sea vegetables are, how they contribute to good health, and how to cook them.

On Friday, Nov. 7, 6-8 p.m., Peter Arnold and Peter Fischer, founders of Maine Fresh Sea Farms, will talk about the different varieties of kelp they are growing in the Damariscotta River in Bristol.

Their talk will explain about sea vegetable aquaculture and the sustainability focus of Maine’s growing industry, and will include recipes and preparation tips.

Seaweeds contain all of the 56 minerals, trace minerals, and essential amino acids required by the human body. They are “salty” without being high in sodium.

The cost of the class is $15, which includes sampling of a stir fry of sea and mixed vegetables and take-home recipes.

Class size is limited, so register early by contacting Peter Arnold at 207-406-0236 or at parnold.maine@gmail.com.
