Lawn sale to benefit 1811 Old Jail

Wed, 05/25/2016 - 9:30am
The Lincoln County Historical Association will hold its annual lawn sale Saturday, June 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of the 1811 Old Jail at 133 Federal Street in Wiscasset. Proceeds from the sale will help pay for brick and granite mortar repair along with general maintenance at the 200-year-old Jail and Jailer’s house.

For all who would like to assist in the fundraising, there is still plenty of time to clear out barns, basements and attics and donate unused items for the sale.  The committee has already collected unique and interesting items including antique dough box, large dough bowl, slant desk top, spinning wheel and tools;  a corner cupboard, pair of wingback chairs, drop leaf table with chairs, chests, dishes, electronics, carpets, chairs and much more. If you have items to donate, please call 882-7230 for drop-off time at 132 Federal Street (directly across from the Old Jail) or to pick up large items. The event will be held rain or shine.

A must see for this summer is the L.C.H.A. 2016 summer exhibit featuring the photography of E. Joseph Leighton (1884-1957) from early twentieth Century Lincoln County, Maine. These magnificent photographs were made from Leighton’s original glass negatives, now in possession of the Maine State Museum.

Summer hours at the Old Jail are Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. from June 4 through October 2, including the day of the lawn sale. Visitors are always welcome to walk the property, and enjoy views of the Sheepscot River. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy this quiet, picturesque location.
