Late summer smiles

Can it really be September? Don't mention it to the team that does garden therapy at St. Andrews Village. These last sweet days of summer were probably the inspiration behind the creation of the final summer project of the year for the residents of Gregory Wing. Smiling daisies and plucky little bugs surely conjured thoughts of the garden for all, who in addition to constructing these visual reminders, were also engaged by the team in a word search exercise to find the names of common flowers that exist in and around the Village.

The cute yellow and white daisies, sporting pink cheeks, googly eyes, and a sparkling drop of dew, were mounted to sturdy green Popsicle sticks and firmly planted in crushed green tissue paper filled clay pots. Definitely not a bumble bee but not quite a ladybug, the whimsical orange insects decked out in purple wings with green spots, googly eyes and pink antennae, were tethered to pots in the same way. This, to insure they would remain put to be enjoyed by residents and their visitors even as the summer season comes to a close. All in all the day was deemed a success as evidenced by the smiling faces in the photo.

Next month the Boothbay Region Garden Club team will help residents decorate locally grown pumpkins to usher in the fall season. This project is always exciting for the residents as it triggers memories of their Halloweens past.
