The Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks junior varsity basketball team concluded the 2014-2015 season with a winning record of 10-7.

Coach Lauren Brown was very pleased with the team’s performance in a very competitive Mountain Valley Conference. The team, consisting primarily of freshmen, worked very hard throughout the season and improved with each and every game.

The Seahawks JV squad rang in the new year on Jan. 2 with a strong defensive showing giving the girls a convincing win against St. Dom's, 28-11, with Denise Stover tossing in six points and Sydney Mercier five points.

One of the most memorable games of the season was a hard fought contest at Oak Hill on Jan. 5 that was a thrilling double overtime game. Angie Perkins managed to make two free throws with no time on the clock in regulation to send the game into its first overtime. The first overtime proved to be a defensive battle with both teams scoring just two, thus extending the game for the second time. A three-pointer late in the second overtime gave the Raiders a one point lead that they were able to hang onto for a 48-47 victory. Sydney Meader and Summer Chamberlin were top scorers with 15 and 13 points, respectfully.

The Lady Seahawks defeated the Dirigo Cougars 41-30 on Jan. 8. Boothbay led 23-9 at the half, after an impressive 14-point scoring assault by Sydney Meader. Dirigo managed to get back in the game putting together a strong third quarter scoring 11 points to Boothbay’s four. Denise Stover scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter to help solidify the win. Six days later Dirigo came to Boothbay and lost again 31-18, with Mackenzie Abbott leading Boothbay with 12 points.

On Jan. 14, the Winthrop Ramblers proved to be competitive, fielding just a junior varsity team this season. Their tenacious full court defensive pressure made it difficult for the Lady Seahawks to get into any kind of a scoring rhythm at times. Winthrop outscored Boothbay 13-4 in the third quarter, a deficit that Boothbay could not overcome. Mackenzie Abbott led all scorers with 16 in the 46-32 loss.

Nine Lady Seahawks contributed in the scoring column against Mt. Abram on Jan. 17. Top scorer was Jo Shaw with 10 points in the 47-11 victory. Highlight of this game was an amazing three pointer tossed in by Elisabeth Wright immediately after she had score her first basket of the season.

Boothbay managed to beat Lisbon at home on Jan. 20 in its second contest against them, 37-18. The Lady Seahawks outscored the Greyhounds 16-4 in the third quarter. Angie Perkins finished with eight points.

On Jan. 29, Boothbay traveled to Hall Dale and won 43-23, outscoring the Bulldogs 23-4 in the second half. Mackenzie Abbott finished with 12 points and Summer Chamberlin seven points.

After winning three in a row, Boothbay struggled offensively to an aggressive Wiscasset team, losing 36-24.

Angie Perkins scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter to lift Boothbay over Winthrop 35-30 on Feb. 6.

In the final contest of the season on Feb. 7, Boothbay lost to the undefeated Madison Bulldogs 33-24, with Angie Perkins tossing in a season-high 17 points.
