Dear Editor:

I’d like to personally thank the Boothbay Register for the wonderful support they give, every week and every year, to the veterans of the Boothbay region. There is never an event that is upcoming that you fail to highlight, and it is truly appreciated. A perfect example is the current issue, heading into the busiest “veterans'” season of the year.

On page 5, for example, there are three large articles highlighting the upcoming Marine Corps Birthday annual cookout on November 8 from noon until 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall; the Veterans Day Observance at the Southport Library on November 11 at 11 a.m.; and an individual celebration of a World War II veteran, Robbie Robinson, participating in Honor Flight Maine that occurred this past weekend.

There were additional mentions of the Rotary Club’s annual Veterans Dinner on November 12; a presentation on VA aid and pension at St. Andrews Village on November 10, and a nice piece by Joe Gelarden on local personality (and veteran) “Mac” Andrews.

I look forward to reading the “Daily Catch,” the full website, and especially the weekly hard copy of the paper, and am eternally grateful that we have a local voice that cares about and shares all the good things that go on in the veterans' community. Thank you!

Jim Singer
