Kudos to Boothbay Harbor Police Department

    Dear Editor:

Over the years we have been so fortunate to spend our summers on Southport until our recent move “off island.” A highlight of those days was to scoot across the bridge to our favorite fireworks’ viewing location on the west side. The last rocket had hardly ended when we were making a mad dash to cross back over the bridge before those dynamic bridge tenders, Dwight, Duane or Sis, would swing the bridge to allow the flotilla of spectator boats to course The Gut.

Now, for our Boothbay Harbor Police Department kudos. After the recent fireworks, we had to drive home to East Boothbay through downtown “metropolitan” Boothbay Harbor (our answer to Times Square, New York City at New Year’s). Though I do know the name of the BHPD officer directing traffic in “city” center, I hesitate to mention his name (but he’s a most important part of our school community) as I do not know the other officers on duty. The way that they coordinated all of the auto traffic, as well as all the pedestrians crossing at the various locations was so smooth – flowing and highly professional! We were safely home in no time without a bridge to worry about. Well done, BHPD.
