Keeping your balance with John Jenkins

Mon, 06/29/2015 - 10:15am

On Wednesday, July 8, the Boothbay Region Garden Club welcomes John Jenkins, creator of “Healthy Gardener – Healthy Garden,” a wellness program based on the principles of yoga, meditative relaxation and Tai Chi developed specifically for a happy and healthy gardening experience. It is important, in Jenkins' view, to prepare one’s body and mind for gardening just as we would prepare our garden environments for good growth and balance.

The program recognizes that injuries resulting from the repetitive use of muscles that cause back and arm fatigue can be a drawback to gardening for many. John’s techniques, based in the practice of his Tai Chi therapy, help alleviate common physical complaints attributed to gardening by bringing together our external and internal natures in a harmonious balance. In his words, “My hope is to provide an interactive ‘healthy gardener’ program that will inform, inspire and engage all attendees.”

John has more than 35 years of successful experience in providing tailored personal and professional development programs that utilize Tai Chi therapy to bring balance to busy lives that may be out of whack. He has lectured and trained throughout the U.S., Japan, and the People’s Republic of China, and is now bringing his programs to Boothbay Harbor.

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes to attend this interactive presentation. The general meeting of the Garden Club will be held at St. Columba’s Church on Emery Lane at 1 p.m. on July 8. Guests are invited to attend.
