Kathleen Bean

Kathleen Bean, 92, died at her home, surrounded by family, on Dec. 24, 2015.

She was born in Bristol, Connecticut, the twin daughter of Richard and Mary (Carne) Monckton. Her twin, Mary, survived only a short time.

Kathleen attended schools in Bristol and followed high school with the completion of business school. She was employed by New Departure, a division of General Motors, which handled payroll for 8,000 to 10,000 people.

Kathleen had a beautiful soprano singing voice and during World War II performed with the U.S.O. tours in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut, entertaining our service men and women.

She married Richard A. Bean in 1947 and raised their four children in Bristol, Connecticut. After many years of brief visits to the New Harbor and Chamberlain areas, where Richard was involved in the lobster business, founding Bristol Lobster Sales, the family made their permanent home in Boothbay Harbor in 1971.

She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and a director of the Boothbay Region Food Pantry. A long-standing member of the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, Kathleen was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Susannah Wesley Circle, and a choir soloist.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Richard, her brother, Richard, and her twin sister, Mary.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Bean of Boothbay Harbor; her daughters, Susan Cote of Tolland, Connecticut and Paula Gerencer of Bowdoin and their spouses; and her son, David Bean of Boothbay Harbor and his spouse. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ashley and Nichole Cote, Jordan Bean, and Will, Kasey and Steven Gerencer, as well as great-grandson, Elijah White. She is also survived by her sister, Alma Bloomquist and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30 at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
