Gardener and botanical illustrator Kate MacGillivary's art will be on display at Southport Memorial Library beginning this Saturday, April 18, with a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This exhibition will continue through the end of June.

MacGillivary was fortunate to spend her formative years growing up on Georgetown Island surrounded by pristine forests and the rugged North Atlantic. She developed a love for all of nature’s beauty at a young age. Primarily self-taught through her high school years, MacGillivary discovered she had a natural talent for art and painting.

After receiving an associate in applied science degree in graphic design and working in the field, MacGillivary established her own business, Plant Manager Studio, a conglomeration of landscaping art (currently botanical illustration) and design.

In September 2009, she received her certificate from the Denver Botanic Gardens’ Botanical Illustrations program. Three years later, MacGillivary received a certificate in Native Plants and Ecology from the Coastal Maine and Botanical Gardens in Boothbay.

The Southport Memorial Library is located at 1032 Hendricks Hill Road on Southport Island.
