Judy Perkins Wright died peacefully on August 4, 2016 at the age of 70, near Portland, Oregon, having spent much time recently with family and friends.

Judy was born March 26, 1946 to James Blenn Perkins Jr. and Patricia Anne Perkins, and grew up in Boothbay Harbor. Judy was a much loved mother to Kristen, Alex (who pre-deceased her), Bethany, Cameron and David; and adored grandmother to Oby, Sky, Alex and Emilia.

Judy’s greatest achievements were her children, but she additionally found a huge enjoyment in teaching and advocating for children with special needs, for which she earned a master's of education degree from Portland State University in 1993. She was also very proud of her Master Gardener certification which she gained in her later years.

Judy is survived by siblings Jim, Sally, Sandra and Tom Perkins, in addition to her children.

Judy graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1964. In high school, she was a graceful swimmer and diver. Judy was an accomplished musician, being selected for the Maine All-State Band and Orchestra for three straight years, culminating in her selection as first trumpet, first chair in the Maine State Orchestra in 1964 (which meant she was considered the top trumpet player in the state of Maine at that time).

She worked for NET&T as one of the last “number please” telephone operators in Boothbay Harbor and served the community in her summer work for the Chamber of Commerce. Judy earned her BA at Gettysburg College, graduating in 1968. She moved to Michigan following her college graduation, then moved with her family to Portland, Oregon in 1981 where she continued to reside until her move to Bay City, Oregon in 2008.

Judy had a great sense of humor, never without a funny story or anecdote to share. She also had strong sense of autonomy and beliefs, teaching those around her to stand up for what they believed in. Judy deeply loved her children and grandchildren, giving them the unforgettable gift of compassion. As well as investing great energy and love into her children, she took great pride in serving as “the meanest mom on the block,” helping other children within her community, following the notion of “it takes a village to raise a child,” with tough and consistent love. She believed in the power of learning, was an avid reader and adored her cats throughout her life.

A private cremation has been completed, and no formal memorial service will be held per Judy’s request, but messages can be sent to the family via sister Sally Perkins, 1419 South Sheridan Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98405.
