Josephine T. “Josie” Giles, 82, of Boothbay, died Sept. 19, 2017, in her sleep at her home in Boothbay, with her daughters by her side.

Josie was born in Belfast, Ireland on March 3, 1935.

In the early ’70s, she moved to Boothbay, where she married Roy Giles. She received her nursing degree from the University of Maine and was a nurse in the local area for more than 30 years. She loved her career and took on many different roles.  She was a nurse epidemiologist for the state of Maine and a nursing supervisor for one of the local hospitals. She really loved patient care the most, and she had a great sense of humor and could put people at ease.

Josie had a green thumb, took a lot of pride in her garden, and delighted in the many different varieties of birds the flowers drew in.  She also loved animals and over the years had adopted several cats and her dog Kane from local shelters. Josie happily spent her last years in her home, which she shared with her daughter, Tina, and her son-in-law, Curt, and their animals.

Josie was predeceased by her mother, Josephine Masterson; her husband, Roy Giles; and her son, Milton A. Giles.

She is survived by her son, Michael Bradshaw of Nottingham, England; daughters, Josephine John of Watertown, Connecticut and Justina Boot and her husband Curtis of Boothbay; granddaughter, Chelsea Taylor of Wiscasset; grandson, Trevor Kistenmacher, great-grandson, Aidan Kistenmacher; and great-granddaughter, Lilly Kistenmacher of Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

A graveside service will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Evergreen Cemetery on Barters Island Road in Boothbay.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.  Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
