Join the Wiscasset Life Chain

Tue, 09/27/2016 - 1:15pm

    Dear Editor:

Have you wondered why people gather for an hour the first Sunday of October to participate in Life Chains, praying and holding signs that read "Abortion Kills Children" and "Abortion Hurts Women?" These gatherings have been going on since 1987. Last year 1,950 Life Chain were formed in 1,600 cities throughout the United States and Canada.

At one Life Chain, a man was holding a sign in front of an abortion clinic when a lady came to him and said she remembered that he was standing there 20 years ago. She had been pregnant, not married, didn't have a job and thought abortion was her only choice. She had changed her mind when she thought about the words on his sign. While she was talking, she turned and introduced her daughter. "I would have aborted her if you hadn't been here," she told him, "and this is my new grand baby. Thank you for being here."

Personally I have had a woman stop and join our Life Chain wanting to hold the sign that says "Abortion Hurts Women." She shared that she had had an abortion and knew that the sign spoke the truth.

This year ten Life Chains will be held in Maine on Sunday, Oct. 2. The one in Wiscasset will be from 2-3 p.m. on the new sidewalk in front of the Town Hall. For more information visit lifechain.net on the web or contact Mary Rose Pray at 882-9640.
