James A. Hall, 73, of Alna died Jan. 11, 2015 at his home with his loving wife of 24 years, Jackie, by his side.

He was born in Haverill, Massachusetts, the son of Stanley A. and Arlene F. Hall.

He moved to Edgecomb after spending vacations with his parents at the Davis Brothers Cabins.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Acushnet, after which he returned to Edgecomb to assist his good friend, Laurence I. Davis, with operating the Davis Brothers Cabins on Davis Island.

He also worked for two area auctioneers for many years. He was an avid collector of items and going to yard sales and attending benefit auctions were two of his favorite pastimes. He loved nature, camping and doing volunteer work at Baxter State Park and in woods of northern Maine where he made many friends.

He and his wife resided in the home they built on Davis Island until moving to Alna.

In addition to his wife and many friends, Jim is survived by three stepchildren and their families, who fondly remember him as “Grumpa,” a name he loved, which was given to him by the grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held this spring, with the date and location to be announced.
