It takes a village to haunt a village

Tue, 10/31/2017 - 11:15am

    Dear Editor:

Nearly 1,500 kids and parents enjoyed an enchanted evening at the Boothbay Railway Village on Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 27 and 28, thanks to the efforts of an amazing all-volunteer committee. The committee was led by Kate Rice and Caleb Hodgdon, who put in easily more than a hundred hours each organizing the rebirth of an all-new Ghost Train.

Volunteers did everything from baking sweet treats for the concession stand, manning trick or treat stations, to decorating the entire campus. Local adults and teens dressed up as Pennywise the clown, murderous gorillas, a corpse bride and groom, and even the headless horseman. Special thanks to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library for coordinating Charlotte’s Barn and to Lyric Meadow Farms for providing Wilbur.

The event was a huge success grossing more than $10,000 in support for the Museum, a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. The proceeds will help offset the cost of a new roof for the Model Railroad Exhibit this off-season as well as other critical repairs.

Special thanks to everyone who helped make Ghost Train possible including volunteers, sponsors, and to all the guests who attended. Rice and Hodgdon have stepped up and agreed to chair the event again in 2018. They are already gathering ideas to make this event even more memorable in the years to come. If you’d like to help with future Ghost Trains or another Boothbay Railway Village event, from North Pole Express to Antique Auto Days, call 207-633-4727 or email margaret@railwayvillage.org.
