Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco to present Poetry Workshop

Sat, 06/24/2017 - 8:15am

Poet Richard Blanco will be featured at the annual Lincoln Arts Festival Poetry Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 9 at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor.

The number of participants is limited to 20. Enrollment for Maine poets (year-round and summer residents) begins on July 5 by email, lincolnartsfestivalbbh@gmail.com or phone, 207-633-3913. Starting July 10, enrollment will be open to all.

Blanco will also present a reading and book signing at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9. Tickets are available online at lincolnartsfestival.org and at Sherman’s Bookstores in Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta.

For President Barack Obama’s second inauguration, Blanco served as the fifth inaugural poet of the United States, following in the footsteps of such great writers as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou. Blanco wrote “One Today,” an original poem for the occasion, which he read at the U.S. Capitol on January 21, 2013. He continues to connect communities through the art of his occasional poetry.
