Howard Barter

Howard "Howie" Barter of Boothbay died Jan. 18, 2015, following heart surgery at Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Brunswick on Oct. 26, 1949. He graduated from Boothbay Region High School and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute.

Howie was a Realtor with Pottle Realty Company at the time of his death, and was serving as a trustee of the Boothbay Harbor Historical Society, vice president of the Boothbay Region Alumni Association, as a member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, and a member and secretary of the Knights of Pythias.

He was recognized by the Lincoln County Board of Realtors as Realtor of the Year in 2009. Previously he was a board member of the Boothbay Harbor Student Aid Fund and active in Rebuilding Together and many other community projects and events.

Howie was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Laurada Barter of Bath.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Slocum Barter of Boothbay; son and daughter-in-law, Drew and Lisen Barter of Madison, Connecticut; daughter and son-in-law Brooke and Jeff Stearns of Portland; grandchildren, Piper, Charlie and Lincoln; brothers, Bruce Barter of Edgecomb, Brian Barter of Boothbay and David Kaler of Bath; sisters, Holly Dawson of Bath and Donna Roush of Moundsville, West Virginia.

He was also predeceased by his brother Dan Kaler.

Services will be held at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Howie’s life at the Opera House following the ceremony.
