Homecoming week rocks at Boothbay Region High School

Homecoming at Boothbay Region High School took place during the week of Oct. 6-12.

The students participated in themed dress up days, decorated their hallways with a class theme, had a pep rally for the homecoming games (football, field hockey and soccer), built floats and rode through town in the resurrected Homecoming parade, had a bonfire, sports games.

The week ended with a dance for all grades at the Boothbay Railway Village where the Homecoming King and Queen, seniors Karl Alamo and Brenna Alley, were crowned along with Princess Erica Eames (sophomore) and Prince Howie Carter (senior).

The class themes this year were Punk Rock vs. Prep for the freshmen, Mardi Gras for the sophomores, Egypt for the juniors, and Space Rave for the seniors. The seniors won the hallway decorating contest, followed by the sophomores in second place, the juniors in third place, and the freshmen in fourth.

Dress up days included pajama day, twin day (where students dressed alike), color day (seniors wore white, juniors purple, sophomores green, and freshmen blue), theme day, and spirit day where students dressed in blue and gold to support the Seahawks.

The parade was brought back this year, followed by the traditional bonfire on Sherman field. Hawkes, Reny's, G&G Towing, and Mark Carter donated flatbed trucks.

“It almost didn't happen,” BRHS Principal Dan Welch said. “We found out that work was planned on the Southport bridge Thursday night, which would have prevented our students from getting home. I called Superintendent Eileen King, and she suggested I contact the group doing the work, Prock Marine.

“I thought there was no way they would reschedule for us, but gave it a shot. And they did — they changed their whole schedule to do the work Wednesday night instead, so the parade and bonfire could take place after all.”

The lighted sign at the schools entrance read “Thank You, Prock Marine!” on Thursday night.

“It was very special that they moved construction,” King said. “We are very thankful.”
