Historical society holds successful benefit

    Dear Editor:

On Sept. 13, Susan Leach and Sally Leach Sewall opened their historic home on Sawyer’s Island in support of the Boothbay Region Historical Society. Those attending were treated to a walk back in time to more than 200 years ago. “The Old Gray House” still retains many of its original architectural features. Artifacts found on or near the property were on display thanks to Judy Dunsford, along with examples of period clothing courtesy of Mike Dekker.

Examples of early tavern food prepared by Sally Leach Sewall were a special treat as were presentations by local historian Barbara Rumsey, archaeologist Tim Dinsmore, and cultural historian Nate Randall.

On behalf of the historical society, I would like to thank Susan and Sally, Barbara, Tim, Nate, Mike and the dedicated volunteers whose generous gifts of time and effort made this a special and successful evening.
