Herbert T. King

Herbert T. King, 85, died Nov. 26, 2014 at his home in Boothbay Harbor.

He was born Oct. 18, 1929 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to John Nicholas and Marion (Peary) King. He grew up and attended schools in Chelsea.

After high school, he began his career as a meat cutter. He worked for Dick’s Meat Locker in Cambridge, First National Stores and Gallahue’s in Melrose until he retired after 50 years. He served in the National Guard for six years.

He loved growing vegetables, puttering in his work room, working on his car and especially loved watching hockey and the Boston Bruins. He was a caring, outgoing and funny person who worked hard all of his life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ella King.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Phinney of Boothbay Harbor; son, Richard King and his wife Aimee of Goshen, Kentucky; sisters, Beth “Sis” Watson of Deerfield, New Hampshire and Barbara Williams of Wilmington, Massachusetts; brother, John King and his wife Pat of Norton, Massachusetts; brother in-law, George Spencer and his wife Rita of Everett, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Derek King of Westport, Kentucky, and Jenni King of Goshen, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews and a great nephew.

A service to celebrate Herbert’s life will be held in Everett, Massachusetts and Boothbay Harbor, with a time, place and date to be announced. Should friends desire, contributions in Herbert’s memory may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
