Help make history move for Boothbay Railway Village visitors

Sun, 04/26/2015 - 9:00am

The Boothbay Railway Village is gearing up for its 50th season and the museum needs the help of volunteers to make history move for visitors to this special place. Volunteers have the opportunity to learn something new, share their passion for history with others and make new friends.

Sample opportunities include:

  • Model T Drivers: Complete a Model T driving course and then sign up to treat guests to a trip around the museum grounds on Model T Tuesdays or special event days.
  • Gift Shop Sales Assistants: Help stock merchandise in displays, talk with guests about products and support the gift shop staff.
  • Gardeners: Plant window boxes and garden areas and later keep up with pruning and wedding. A crew is also needed to help with growing a giant pumpkin because of the museum’s new partnership with the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest.
  • Docent Conductors: Greet guests on the platform at Thorndike station, share stories about Maine railroad history and the museum, ride the train and help provide directions upon arrival to Thorndike Station.
  • Antique Auto Exhibit Ambassadors: Share stories and information about the more than 60 vehicles on exhibit, assist staff with car maintenance.

These are just a few of the many positions available. New this year is a chance to complete customer service training and a basic museum orientation side by side with the entire museum staff and volunteer team. A retreat is being planned for Wednesday, May 13. Those interested in joining the volunteer team this summer should contact Margaret at margaret@railwayvillage.org or at 207-633-4727.
