Boothbay Region High School junior Hannah Morley won a basketball shooting contest at the KVYMCA/MAC All-Star game on March 25.

The All-Star game followed a tournament where she played with a team of Boothbay girls coached by Lesley Blethen. After the tournament, Morley was given the opportunity to participate in the shooting contest.

For winning, she and her partner in the contest were each given $100 from the Maine Athletic Club (which administered the tournament and shooting contest) with the stipulation that it be donated to a local charity. Morley decided to donate to Boothbay Special Olympics.

“We got to choose the charity and I wanted to give back to other athletes,” Morley said.

Morley presented a novelty check to Toby LeConte's class at Boothbay Region Elementary School on Friday, April 17. After the presentation, LeConte handed out the ribbons and medals won by the athletes at the recent swimming tournament.

“There were 20 teams, so 40 people total participating in the contest,” Morley said. “We each did two layups, one foul shot, and five 3-point shots.”

Morley tied the first round, missing two of her 3-point shots. In the next round, however, she only missed one.

The class thanked Morley for her generous donation.
