Half marathon, 5k races draw crowds

    An estimated 300 runners took part in the annual half marathon and 5K races which had the finish line at the Boothbay Region High School football field on Saturday, Sept. 3.

    “We have a different course this year,” said race director Anne Marie Winchester.

    The races were monitored by a crew of volunteers and results were recorded by Randy Easter of Jay. Proceeds went to the Boothbay Region YMCA and LincolnHealth Diabetes Program.

    Jeremy Grosvenor of Cabot, Vermont won the 5k race in 16.48. Preston Ringo of Pemaquid came in second in 18.30. Ryee Spaulding of Readfield was the women’s overall winner in 22.22. Gryffin Kristan, 12, of Boothbay Harbor won his division, and Kayla Sawyer, 12 of Hopkinton, Massachusetts won hers.

    University of Southern Maine student Andrew Brunton won the half marathon in 1:29.56. Jessica Kennedy of Leesburg, Florida was the first woman to cross the finish line in the half marathon, in 1:36.00.
