Guilt-free holiday eating

Wed, 11/11/2015 - 8:15am

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, Dimereze "Dimsie" Clark, local dietitian and nutritionist, will lead an interactive discussion about how to enjoy holiday foods and still keep yourself and your loved ones healthy. The program will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Boothbay Fire House and will include homemade desserts, along with coffee, tea, milk, water and cider provided by volunteers from the Boothbay Region Health & Wellness Foundation.

Clark earned her undergraduate and her master's of science degrees from the University of Maine at Orono. A native of Canada, she attended New Brunswick Teacher College in Fredericton before coming to the United States. Clark now lives in Boothbay Harbor and works at Midcoast Hospital.

The Maine Academey of Nutrition and Dietetics recognized Clark as Outstanding Dietitian of The Year in 2006. She is a member of the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Commission of Dietetic Registration, The American Association of Diabetes Educators and its Maine affiliate and currently is the chair of the board of Licensing of Dietetic Practice in Maine.

Clark will discuss how to navigate the abundance of popular holiday foods; how to entertain family and friends with dietary constraints, such as gluten free and/or lactose free. She will suggest how to serve and how to eat delicious foods made with eggs, butter, and sugar and still keep our cholesterol and our diabetes under control. In order to have a good discussion that meets the needs of the audience, Dimsie asks that you bring questions about holiday foods and healthy eating in general. We will have a wonderful time talking about food and sampling food! Please join us for our last Wellness Forum of 2015. Sponsored by the Boothbay Region Health & Wellness Forum.
