Letter to the Editor

Great response to veterans seminar

Tue, 01/12/2016 - 10:30am

Dear Editor:

Just a short note of thanks for all those who participated in Saturday's Veteran Information Seminar.

First and foremost, thanks to the 67 veterans and family who took the time to attend. Thanks to Hannaford for donating the bagels and muffins which were enjoyed by all, there were no leftovers! Thanks to Tom Dewey, Harbor Technologies, who so graciously loaned the Legion a projection system when, as you might guess, the Legion’s projector blew a bulb the day before the event ... and yes, you have to special order these very expensive bulbs. Another special thanks to Robert Mitchell, who so generously donated his beautiful 2016 calendars to our veterans who are in assisted living facilities and nursing homes; thanks so much Robert! And, to our speakers from the VA, Martin's Point, Maine Veterans Service Bureau, and Pine Tree Legal thanks for somehow getting two hours of important information into the allotted 20 minutes, we all learned a lot! And a special thanks to Rob McCann and Teague Morris from Congresswomen Pingree and Senator King staffs, respectively.

I think it was really important for the attendees to know that you are there to support us when struggling with the “system.” Last but not least, thanks to the Boothbay Register for providing the space for us to get the word out, it would not have been a success without you guys.
