Great hosts

    Dear Editor:

After 12 summers here and a childhood of sporadic vacations, it is high time to applaud the residents of Boothbay Harbor, namely a few.

On June 27, we hosted 75 friends and family for our son’s wedding in Boothbay Harbor. Not only were we blessed with amazing weather and the company of all those we hold near and dear, but the town of Boothbay Harbor rose to this monumental occasion as well. It is my hope to post this as a “thank you” letter, but also to encourage those planning events to consider all the possibilities in the harbor.

First, our friends at The Topside and Fisherman’s Wharf for warm welcomes and spectacular accommodations. Especially the breakfasts at Topside! The day of arrival started with food and sangria at the ever amazing Bistro. Most guests stayed in the harbor late into the evening enjoying camaraderie at Pier One’s Pub. Our first scheduled event was held Friday night at Cod’s Head Fish House. Ralph put out a spread of barbecue and fresh summer accompaniments that satisfied our awestruck guests as the sun went down.

We began the next day at Oasis Day Spa. Thanks to Leah for understanding a couple of panicked and last minute cancellations like a pro. We emerged perfectly coiffed and ready to go! The bride and her entourage set out for Topside again, where the boys (Buzz and Mark) allowed her to check in early to her beautiful room for dressing and final touches. Marinel from Boothbay Region Greenhouses showed up with the bouquet and flowers for the family, after decorating two boats, the chapel, chapel dock and the venue with what was “exactly” what the bride wanted!

By the time I arrived at Pier 8 where the Novelty awaited, the guests were already starting to board. The day was amazing and again, Ralph Smith had servers aboard to refresh our palates on the journey to All Saints By-the-Sea. The captain, Bill Campbell, was full of smiles as he traversed our group across the waters to the island of Southport. And finally, what would a summer Sunday be without a sunset Reggae Cruise without the sun? Many of our guests embarked anyway, but I refuse to go into details. Safe to say that upon arrival back to the harbor, the Bistro earned her stripes once again.

Thank you Boothbay Harbor for opening your arms and making this event so special!
