Grandparents and Grandfriends Day

The Friday, May 25 Boothbay Region Elementary School Grandparents and Grandfriends Day brought smiles and laughter to families and the community as students from kindergarten to fourth grade celebrated 80 years of Disney magic in song. Conducting the choir of kids was music teacher Genie O’Connell.

The kindergarteners and first two grades led off with “You Can Fly!” from the 1953 Disney rendition of J.M Barry’s “Peter Pan.” Adeline Barter and Gigi Blake performed as soloists.

All students joined together to sing the Julie Andrews classic “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from “Mary Poppins.” Afton Warren-Burdin, Liam Welch, Cole Hyson, Matthew Little, Gabby Crowell, Rose Campbell, Aileigh Johnson, Titan Lewisand Sabine Pochee all had solos.

Soloists Maggie Halter, Morgan Steane and Sophie White led the rest of the third and fourth graders in a rendition of “Bare Necessities” from the 1967 film “Jungle Book.”

“Under the Sea” from the 1989 classic “The Little Mermaid” was sung by all with no soloists. The grand finale came in the form of “Circle of Life” from 1994’s eternal “The Lion King.” The soloists were Sonora Neal, Olivia Roberts, Koh-Koh LaMarche, Abbie Amaral, Teagan Bryce, Sophia Mansfield and Tatum French.
