‘Godspell’ features Broadway’s future stars

Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) in Brunswick presents the hit Broadway show “Godspell” for two shows only on Monday, July 28 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

“Godspell,” based loosely on the Gospels and parables of Jesus, remains one of the most popular rock musicals of all time. The show features a breathtaking score by Stephen Schwartz, including hits such as “Day by Day,” “God Save the People,” “By My Side,” and “Turn Back, O’ Man.”

MSMT intern Kevin Nietzel and local performer Cameron Wright (of Gorham) lead the show as Jesus and Judas, respectively.

The supporting cast of “Godspell” features actors Melissa Bills, Eileen Hanley, Danielle Lane, Tommy Waltz, Reid Watson, Matthew West, and Alec Cohen, and interns Jessica Lawyer, Jennifer Maurer, Dylan Cole Passman, Zoe Raphael, Tara Lynn Steele and Andrew Winans.

Directed by MSMT Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, the show is produced entirely by the 2014 MSMT Intern Company.

“The audience not only gets to see an amazing, high-energy show with Godspell, they’ll also experience Broadway’s future stars, both on and off the stage,” Clark said.
