Dear Editor:

If in the past month you noticed purple lights, ribbons, and banners throughout the harbor and towns, it was due to the over 95 business owners in Lincoln County who, in participation with New Hope for Women, supported October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Each year New Hope for Women partakes in the awareness campaign by asking people in the community to display purple lights. The goal is to remove the stigma associated with domestic violence and to let all those affected by a controlling/abusive partner or family member know that there is respectful and confidential help and support available to them and their families.

Thank you to all the community members and business owners for your continued support. We received many comments from people stating the displays offered them a glimmer of hope in knowing that they are not alone.
