Friends of Windjammer Days announce line-up of new events

Friends of Windjammer Days announced several new events that will take place during the weeklong festival in late June, including an oyster shucking contest and a four-night Carnival by Smokey’s Greater Shows

While the windjammer fleet arriving into the harbor under full sail tends to be the highlight of the festival, several new and existing events are slated to take place throughout the week.

  • There will be a lighted boat parade through the harbor on Saturday , June 27 starting at 9 p.m. There will be several categories for boats to compete for a variety of prize
  • The Lobster Eating Contest will take place on June 24 at 2 p.m. and is open for everyone to participate. Each participant will purchase two lobsters, and whoever can pick both lobsters and eat the claws, knuckles and tail first, wins.
  • The carnival featuring rides and games for the whole family will take place on Wednesday, June 24 through Saturday June 27 at the Boothbay Region High School athletic field.
  • The inaugural oyster shucking contest will take place on Friday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will be held on Pier 1 in front of Mine Oyster.

In addition to the new events, annual, signature events are once again slated to take place during the weeklong festival, including The Windjammer Days Street Parade, which will take place on June 24 at 4 p.m. On the day of the event, floats will line up at the high school, with judging commencing at 2:30 p.m. The best float will be awarded a trophy to keep for one year.
